Honoring our Nations Veterans

We decided to make it a family tradition to celebrate Veterans Day by visiting the War memorials in Washingtion DC. Since Matt had the day off we spent a couple of hours honoring the dead and the living soldiers that have helped to protect our country from the beginning. You don't realize the impact they have in each of our lives until you see the names and faces of those who served and died. Both Matt and I were brought to tears many times while reading the stories of these servicemen and women and the sacrifices that they went through. Seeing pictures of these young fathers and mothers who never got to see their families and especially their children grow up really makes you realize how important it is to support our troops and their families right now. Maxwell kept asking us who those people were and what their names were. We tried our best to describe to him who they were and what they did for our country and I hope he learned something about our country's history. I was also reminded of all of the non-military men and women who are putting their lives on the line to work in countries during war time.

Here Maxwell is pointing the all of the names on the Vietnam War Memorial. He was so curious about each of the names and wanted to stop and touch all of the individual memorials set up.

Maxwell and Mom enjoying her favorite memorial of them all, World War 2 Memorial. It is so beautiful with the fountains and the individual monuments for every state involved. It is the largest of all of the war memorials.

This was the way that Maxwell was transported from the memorials since we had forgotten the stroller which was in the back of the Durango. We had taken the Malibu because it is easier to park in the city but we soon found out that is was easier without the stroller because of the crowds and it would have been difficult to move that huge stroller in and out of the people.

That was so cool of you guys! I come from a big military family- grandpa, uncles, cousins, dad, sister, brother in law, father in law... thank you for recognizing them!

Thanks for teaching your son about the sacrifices of the women and men who died in the service of their country and their relatives who also sacrificed greatly. I was working at the Wall as a National Park Service volunteer on Veterans Day, and I remember seeing your son touching the Wall.

God bless,

I have spent a great deal of time studying the Vietnam era and appreciate the way you take advantage of exposing Max to historical sights. The photos of Max standing in front of the Vietnam Memorial is priceless. I printed it out and have it hanging by my desk.
